The Ming Dynasty Quality Hcp is a handicap race over 1400m for three-year-olds and is best suited to horses who can handle the quality handicap conditions of the event. Better 3yo gallopers will receive more weight than their counterparts and it allows an improving galloper to get in with a light weight and beat the handicapper.
The race is typically won by a more than handy 3yo rather than the silk department, although the brilliant Lonhro won this race back in 2001.
So You Think (2nd in 2009) went on to win the Gr1 WS Cox Plate as a three-year-old later in the spring and recent winners of the Ming Dynasty Quality Hcp include Predatory Pricer (2008), Mearas (2006) and Primus in 2005.
