The McEwen Stakes generally attracts good quality sprinters and the 1000 metre dash around the tight Moonee Valley track can often see track specialist types have good success, and it pays to look at horses who have form at the track and distance.
Kaphero (2008) had top track and distance form having won 5 from seven previous starts over the 1000m at Moonee Valley, and Miss Andretti (2006) had a great Valley record too.

2009 McEwen Stakes: The fast pace up front allowed Nicconi to come from back in the field to run on strongly in the straight and overtake Morgan Dollar in the last 100m to score a very good win. Morgan Dollar took the lead rounding the turn and kicked clear in the straight before being collared by the winner and held on well for second, while Secret Flyer was always well back and ran on strongly to finish in third place.
