The Kingston Town Stakes is a handicap race over 2000m with a highweight limit of 61 kilograms and is an ideal follow up race to the Gr3 Premier's Cup (1800m) held two weeks earlier at Rosehill.
Horses who run well in this race will more often than not head towards the Randwick carnival and the Gr2 Colin Stephen Quality (2400m) and Gr1 The Metropolitan (2400m), as they are a step up in distance and raced under simliar handicap conditons.
Mr Martini (2006) and Stormhill (2005) both ran placings in the Premier's Cup before going on to win this race. Railings (2nd in 2005) went on to win the Gr2 Colin Stephen Quality before winning the Gr1 Metropolitan and Gr1 Caulfield Cup.
This race is generally a reasonable guide to the spring staying races coming up at Randwick and tends to attract handy stayers rather than the upper echelon.

2009 Kingstown Town Stakes: Bellagio Wynn cleared out in front to set a very quick pace which set it up for those back in the field. Ready To Lift came from well back and finished strongly in the run home to win nicely from Voice Coach, who sat off the pace and found plenty in the run to the line to finish second, while God's Hand made ground late to finish in third place.
