The Heritage Stakes is a good 3yo event over 1200m and suits horses coming from previous set weight races for three-year-olds such as the Up and Coming Stakes (1200m) and Golden Rose (1400m), or those who are heading towards the Gr2 Stan Fox Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on George Main Stakes day.
The race has been won by some quality gallopers through the years including Lonhro (2001), General Nediym (1997), Intergaze (1996) and the classy Octagonal in 1995.
Recent winners of the Heritage Stakes have been Bhutane Dane (2008), race not held in 2007, and Star Of Luis in 2006.

2009 Heritage Stakes: Stryker kicked back strongly after being headed by Funtantes inside the 100m mark and held on for a good win. Funtantes weakened on her run to finish second while Sea Spur held on for third.
