The Gimcrack Stakes is the first Listed race of the season for two-year-old fillies and takes place on Epsom Handicap day each October at Randwick racecourse in Sydney. The race is run over the short distance of 1000 metres for the girls and is worth $100,000 in prizemoney for the youngsters. It was won in 2009 by Gybe from Mafia Miss with So Detached in third place.

The Gimcrack Stakes is quite often the first race start for many a two-year-old filliy in the new racing season and it has provided some stars of the turf over the years.
Recent good 2yo trial form, horses in strong 2yo stables, and well bred types will be the ones to watch in this event. The Listed Breeders Plate is the equivalent race for 2yo colts and geldings and run on the same day at Randwick.
Recent winners of the Gimcrack Stakes have been Our Joan Of Arc (2008), race not run in 2007, and Hurried Choice (2006).
