The Furious Stakes is a 1400m race for fillies at set weights and is generally contested by females that raced in the Gr3 Silver Shadow Stakes at Warwick Farm two weeks earlier. The fillies who compete in this race will most likely head on to the Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes over 1500m in a couple of weeks time at Rosehill, before contesting the major Gr1 fillies race of the spring, the Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Epsom Hcp day.
The Silver Shadow Stakes has been a great guide to the Furious Stakes in recent times as Samantha Miss (2008), Mnemosyne (2005) and Victory Vein (2002) all won the Silver Shadow Stakes before winning this race. Melito (2009) finished second in the Silver Shadow before winning this event at her next start.
Love and Kisses (2nd in 2008) ran 3rd in the Silver Shadow beforehand, while Wager finished 2nd in both races in 2004, as did Hosannah in 2001. Our Sweet Moss won the 2004 Silver Shadow before finishing 3rd in this race, while Unwordly won this race in 2000 after finishing 3rd in the Silver Shadow two weeks earlier.
Samantha Miss (2008), Mnemosyne (2005), Prisoner Of Love (2004), Shamekha (2003), Victory Vein (2002) all won the Tea Rose stakes after winning this race.
Samantha Miss (2008) and Angst (1993) are the only two gallopers to win the Priincess Series of races, Silver Shadow, Furious Stakes, Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes.

2009 Furious Stakes: Melito was always handy in the run and raced to the lead at the 200m to win in easy fashion from Hurtle Myrtle who came home nicely to finish the race off well, while Lovemelikearock held her ground to finish a sound third.
