The Flight Stakes is a Group 1 set weights race for three-year-old Fillies held at Randwick racecourse during the Sydney spring racing carnival each year in October. The race is run over a distance of 1600 metres with over $300,000 in prizemoney for the females and takes place on Epsom Handicap day .
The 2009 Flight Stakes winner was the Gai Waterhouse trained More Joyous from Sister Madly with Hurtle Myrtle third.
Epsom Handicap Day features three other quality Group 1 races alongside the Flight Stakes, which are the Epsom Handicap (1600m) an open handicap, The Metropolitan (2400m) for stayers, and the Flight Stakes (1600m) for 3yo fillies.

The Flight Stakes is the only Group One race for 3yo fillies held during the Sydney spring carnival and it attracts some of the best young females looking for Group 1 glory. The Gr2 Furious Stakes or Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes are traditional guides to this race, especially the Tea Rose, where winners or placegetters have provided 9 of the last 11 Flight Stakes winners.
In the past 9 years, More Joyous (2009), Samantha Miss (2008), Cheeky Choice (2006), Ha Ha (2001) and Unworldy (2000) won the Tea Rose/Flight Stakes double. Fashions Afield ran 2nd in the 2005 Tea Rose Stakes before winning this race, as did Unearthly in 2003.
Recently, My Lady's Chamber (2006), Covertly (2004), Hosannah (2001), Lady Mulan (2000) ran placings in both races, while Mnemosyne (2005) and Victory Vein (2002) both won the Tea Rose before running a place in the Flight Stakes. The Tea Rose form holds up extremely well for this race.
Samantha Miss (2008), Unworldly (2000), Danglissa (1999), Sunline (1998) all managed to win the Furious Stakes-Tea Rose Stakes- Flight Stakes treble.
Samantha Miss (2008) and Angst (1993) are the only two gallopers to win the Priincess Series of races, Silver Shadow, Furious Stakes, Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes.
Some top fillies have been successful in this event and none better than the mighty Sunline in 1998, while other good winners have been Samantha Miss (2008), Assertive Lass (1996), Angst (1993), Triscay (1990), Research (1988) and Bounding Away in 1986.
