The Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes is a Group 2 race run over a distance of 1600 metres at Moonee Valley during the spring racing carnival in Melbourne. From 1984 to 2004 the race was known as the ‘John F. Feehan Stakes’ and from 2005 onwards the race has been the ‘Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes’ and is an annual event for open horses raced under weight-for-age conditions.
The race was worth $350,000 in 2008, but prizemoney increased to $500,000 in 2009 to give this race more status. The 2009 winner was Whobegotyou from Mic Mac with Singapore galloper Jolie's Shinju third.

The Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes takes place at the tight Moonee Valley race track over 1600 metres early in the spring and generally attracts quality milers and often some top class horses on the way to bigger and better things. The race has grown in stature in recent times and many of our best horses now compete in this race and have gone on to victory in some of our biggest feature races of the spring.
The Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes has been a great guide to spring feature races over the past few years with winners and placegetters providing Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup winners and a high percentage of WS Cox Plate winners.
The race has been won by many well known topliners over the years, including El Segundo (2007), Fields Of Omagh (2002), Northerly (2001), mighty mare Sunline (2000), and the very talented Better Loosen Up in 1990.
