The Champagne Stakes is a handy race for fillies held on Manikato Stakes night over the sprint distance of 1200m. The set weights conditons of the race gives the better fillies a decided edge and prior form around the Moonee Valley circuit is always an advantage.
The race has been won by some very good fillies over the years including Fair Embrace (2001), St Clemens Belle (1998), With Me (1990) and Courtza in 1989.

2009 Champagne Stakes: Avenue led all the way and kicked clear in the straight to score in easy fashion from Rostova who came from just off the pace rounding the turn to run on gamely for a distant second, while My Girl Helen battled on well to hold down third placing.
