The Breeders Plate is the first Listed race of the season for two-year-old colts and geldings and takes place on Epsom Handicap day each October at Randwick racecourse in Sydney. The race is run over the short distance of 1000 metres for the males and is worth $100,000 in prizemoney for the youngsters. It was won in 2009 by Run For Wilson from Jigsaw with Gold Arena third.

The Breeders Plate has been the first race start for many a two-year-old over the years and it has been the breeding ground for many top 2yo colts and geldings who have gone on to be stars of the turf.
Quality types such as Choisir (2001), Mistegic (2000), Mr Innocent (1997), Encounter (1996) and Show County (1988) have saluted in this event. Finding a winner will depend on recent 2yo trial form and horses with blue ribbon breeding and up to the task.
The Listed Gimcrack Stakes is the equivalent race for 2yo fillies and run on the same day as the Breeders Plate and they are the only two-year-old races held in the city during the Sydney spring carnival.
