The Victoria Handicap is the prominent sprint event held at Easter in Melbourne and more often than not attracts above average gallopers, rather than the upper echelon, as most of the quality gallopers will be in Sydney at this time of year for the big money events on offer.
The race usually assembles a capacity field of gallopers with varying ability, sometimes making it a tough job for punters when trying to find a winner. It has carved its own niche on the racing calendar and is reasonable quality race for the easter period in Melbourne.
Orbit Express (2010) won a 1200m race at Caulfield the previous week prior to scoring in this event and recent winners of the Victoria Handicap include Masked Assassin (2009) and Gotta Have Heart (2008).
