The Tulloch Stakes is held one week before the Gr1 AJC Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick and gives three-year-old colts & geldings a final hit out at 2000m in preparation for the extra 400 metres of the Derby the following week.
The last horse to win the Tulloch Stakes & AJC Derby double was Starcraft in 2004. The race tends to attract more than handy types rather than superstars and horses such as Ivory's Irish (1995), Mahogany (1994) and Durbridge (1991) were successful in this race before going on to win the Derby.
Count Encosta (2010) won a midweek 1800m race at Kensington prior to scoring in this event and recent winners of the Tulloch Stakes have been Harris Tweed (2009) and Book Of Kells (2008).

2010 Tulloch Stakes: The Comedian cleared out in front setting it up for those horses at the rear and Count Encosta finished too strongly in the run home for Descarado, who ran to the lead in the straight before runnin an honest second, while Maluckyday was a fair way back in third spot.
