The Southern Cross Stakes is a Group 3 Quality Handicap race held annually each February at Randwick racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales. The race is run over a distance of 1200 metres and is worth $125,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 Southern Cross Stakes was won by Kenny's World from Dreamscape with Geared Up third.
The race has traditionally been known as the 'Frederick Clissold Stakes' and changed names to become the 'Southern Cross Stakes' in 2009.

The Southern Cross Stakes is a quality handicap that tends to attract above average sprinting types rather than the topliners as recent history shows. The race tends to assemble a field of very evenly matched gallopers which makes for a keen betting contest.
The natural progression after this event is the Gr3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) in three weeks time at Warwick Farm, as it is raced under similar conditions, but rises an extra 100 metres in distance. Dreamscape (2nd in 2009) went on to win the Liverpool City Cup after finishing second in this event.
Top class gallopers Danewin (1996) and Joanne (1991) have both won this race in its history and occasionally a high quality type may be entered and prove the testing material.
Kenny's World (2010) went one better than the year before when he won this race after finishing third in the Canterbury Classic beforehand. Recent winners of the Southern Cross Stakes have been Marchinski (2009) and Hoystar (2008).

2010 Southern Cross Stakes: Kenny's World had last crack at them and ran home strongly in the last 100m to score a more than handy win. Dreamscape led as expected and was headed inside the 200m and fought back valiantly to grab second, while Geared Up loomed up at the 200m but didnt quite go on with it and ended up running thid.
