The SA Breeders Stakes is the first group race to be held for two-year-olds during the autumn racing carnival in Adelaide and is usually contested by handy local types rather than high quality youngsters. The set weight conditions of the race favours the better performed 2yo gallopers.
Any 2yo racing in this event may consider going on to the Gr3 The Jansz National Stakes later in the month or the Gr2 SA Sires Produce Stakes in April which are both better quality races for two-year-olds and run under similar conditions.
Shrapnel (2010) ran third on debut in the listed Queen Adelaide Stakes before going on to win this event and recent winners of the SA Breeders Stakes include Augusta Proud (2008) and Murjana (2007).

2010 SA Breeders Stakes: Shrapnel jumped straight to the front and set his own pace in the race which allowed him to forge clear in the straight and go on to score a solid win. Yosei ran on strongly from a fair way back in the straight to take some ground off the winner in the final 200m, while Spirited Princess raced on the pace and battled on fairly for third.
