The Phar Lap Stakes is a Group 2 race for three-year-olds that takes place each year in March at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales during the autumn carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1500 metres under set weight conditions and worth $150,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 Phar Lap Stakes was won by Tickets from Al Dhafra with Descarado third.

The Phar Lap Stakes is a set weight race for three-year-olds that favours the more talented gallopers entered for the event due to the level weights conditions of the event. It's typically a race won by a more than handy galloper, rather than a topliner, and is held on the same day as the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Classic and Gr1 Ranvet Stakes.
The race tends to suit those horses who do not plan to go on to the longer 3yo events 1600m+ later in the carnival and more recently Shania Dane (2005) and Only Words (2004) have gone on to win the Gr3 South Pacific Classic (1400m) on Doncaster Handicap day.
Whobegotyou (2nd in 2009) ran third in the Doncaster Handicap after finishing runner-up here, while Predatory Pricer (3rd in 2009) went on to run third in the Gr1 AJC Australian Derby later in the carnival.
Tickets (2010) was unplaced in the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap on Super Saturday of Racing at Flemington in Melbourne before returning to Sydney to take out this event. Recent winners of the Phar Lap Stakes have been Heart Of Dreams (2009) and Acey Ducey (2008).

2010 Phar Lap Stakes: Tickets settled back worse than midfield in the run and quickly made ground rounding the home turn where he sprinted to a clear lead and held that advantage all the way to the line in a strong win. Al Dhafra settled futher back than Tickets in the run and followed a similar path to the winner, but although he was gallant in defeat, he was no match for Tickets in the run home. Descarado held on for third place after racing handy all the way.
