The Light Fingers Stakes is a set weights race for 3yo fillies that usually attracts more than handy females on their way to the bigger races on offer in coming weeks. It is the first group race available for three-year-old fillies in the new year in Sydney and races like the Gr3 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) in two weeks or the Gr2 Surround Stakes (1400m) in three weeks are likely races on the agenda for fillies tackling this event.
Classy types Gold Edition (2007), Assertive Lass (1997), Skating (1993) and Joanne (1990) have all saluted in this race. The Gr2 Royal Sovereign Stakes held on the same day is the colts & geldings equivalent of this race.
More Joyous (2010) won this race resuming from a spell when she led all the way for an easy victory and recent winners of the Light Fingers Stakes have been Rock My Baby (2009) and Forensics (2008).
