The Kewney Stakes is a Group 2 race for three-year-old fillies held annually each March at Flemington racecourse in Melbourne during the Melbourne autumn racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1400 metres under set weight conditions with prizemoney of $500,000. The 2011 Kewney Stakes was won by Do Ra Mi from Brazilian Pulse with Divorces third.
Taking place on Super Saturday of Racing at Flemington, the Victoria Racing Club's premier race day of the autumn, the Kewney Stakes is held alongside two $1,000,000 races, the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap over 1200m and the Gr1 Australian Cup over 2000m.
The Kewney Stakes is the premier three-year-old fillies event held at Flemington during the autumn racing carnival and the race tends to attract the better class fillies going around. Races like the Gr3 Vanity Stakes at Flemington and Gr2 Angus Armanasco Stakes at Caulfield are excellent lead up races to this event.
Gallica (2009) took out the Gr1 Australiasian Oaks at Morphettville after scoring in this event and the Kewney Stakes often produces fillies who go on to better things at the highest level.
Do Ra Mi (2011) ran second in The Vanity Stakes at this track prior to her fast finishing win in this event and recent Kewney Stakes winners have been Faint Perfume (2010) and Gallica (2009).
