George Ryder Stakes
The George Ryder Stakes is a Group 1 weight-for-age race held annually each March at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales. The race is run over a distance of 1500 metres and worth $1,000,000 in prize money. The 2020 George Ryder Stakes was won by Dreamforce from The Bostonian with Te Akau Shark third.
The winner of this race is exempt from a ballot on the Doncaster Handicap and it takes place on Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes day alongside the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas and Group 1 The Galaxy on a huge day of feature racing action.

The George Ryder Stakes is a time honoured weight-for-age race that always assembles the the best sprinter/milers available and the race has a long history of being won by top class gallopers. Many of Australia's finest thoroughbreds have saluted in this race including Pierro (2013), Weekend Hussler (2008), Racing To Win (2006), Lonhro (2003-4) and the brilliant Schillaci (1993).
The Ryder Stakes has traditionally been a good horse's race and the level weights playing field ensures that the best horses will figure in the finish most of the time.
The race itself has proven a solid guide to the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap in recent times with Vision And Power (2009), Haradasun (2007), Racing To Win (2006) and Grand Armee (2nd in 2003) all going on to score victories in Randwick's premier mile race of the autumn.
Classy 3yo Kermadec (3rd in 2015) went on to win the Doncaster Handicap at his next start while classy gallopers Real Impact (2015), Pierro (2013) and Love Conquers All (2nd in 2011) all finished runner-up in the Doncaster.
Horses competing in this event might also consider going on to tackle Randwick feature races like the $4,000,000 Group 1 ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes during 'The Championships' or the Group 1 All Aged Stakes on the final day of the Sydney autumn carnival. Criterion (2nd in 2015) scored a classy victory in the ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes at his next start following his runner-up finish in this race.
Winx (2016-2019) took out the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes over 1600m at Randwick for the fourth successive year before producing capturing this event for the fourth year in a row for the chris Waller stable.
