The George Ryder Stakes is a Group 1 weight-for-age race held annually each April at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales. The race is run over a distance of 1500 metres and worth $400,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 George Ryder Stakes was won by Danleigh from Dao Dao with King Mufhasa third.
The winner of this race is exempt from a ballot on the Doncaster Handicap.
The George Ryder Stakes takes place on the STC's biggest day of racing which is Golden Slipper Day and includes four other Group 1 races on the program, the Golden Slipper Stakes, The BMW, Vinery Stud Stakes, and the Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

The George Ryder Stakes is a time honoured weight-for-age race that always assembles the the best sprinter/milers available and the race has a long history of being won by top class gallopers. Many of Australia's finest thoroughbreds have saluted in this race, including Weekend Hussler (2008), Racing To Win (2006), Lonhro (2003-4) and the brilliant Schillaci in 1993.
The Ryder has traditionally been a good horse's race and the level weights playing field ensures that the best horses will more often than not figure in the finish. The race itself has proven a solid guide to the Gr1 Doncaster Handicap in recent times, with Vision And Power (2009), Haradasun (2007), Racing To Win (2006) and Grand Armee (2nd in 2003) all going on to score wins in Randwick's premier mile event of the autumn.
Competitors from this race may also go on to tackle races like the Gr1 AJC Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) or Gr1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on the final day of the autumn carnival.
Danleigh (2010) ran third in the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes on his way to winning this race with a brilliant finish on a slow track and recent winners of the George Ryder Stakes have been Vision And Power (2009) and Weekend Hussler (2008).

2010 George Ryder Stakes: Danleigh relished the slow conditions and fast pace to come home with a rush in the final 200 metres and score a resounding victory. Dao Dao came from midfield and made his run with Danleigh but was no match for that horse and finished a clear second. King Mustafa raced on the pace and got to the lead in the straight before being overtaken by the first two in the run home and stuck on strongly to claim third.
