The Challenge Stakes is a Group 2 weight-for-age race held annually each March at Randwick racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales during the autumn racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1000 metres and worth $150,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 Challenge Stakes was won by De Lightning Ridge from Dorf Command with Stryker third.

The Challenge Stakes is a good quality sprint race run under weight-for-age conditions and generally sees a field of more than handy sprinters assembled. The race takes place on Gr1 Randwick Guineas day and is the feature sprint race on the program.
Raced at level weights, the better horses entered for the race have a decided advantage, and more often than not the classier gallopers will figure in the finish.
Sprinters from this race may consider tackling other short sprint races like the Gr2 Star Kingdom Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Slipper day or the Gr1 The Galaxy (1000m) later on at the Randwick carnival.
De Lightning Ridge (2010) was unplaced in a 1200m event at Rosehill prior to winning this race in track record time, breaking 56.0 seconds in the process. Recent winners of the Challenge Stakes include Olonana (2009) and Hurried Choice (2008).

2010 Challenge Stakes: The fast pace set the race up for the big finishers and De Lightning Ridge pounced on them at the 200m mark to go on and score a a top win and broke the track record in the process, breaking 56 seconds for the 1000 metres. Dorf Command was always well back and showed her customary big finish to run second, while Styker also ran on late in the race to claim third.
