Breeders Classic

The Breeders Classic is a Group 2 Mares - Set Weights + Penalty race that takes place each February at Warwick Farm racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales during the autumn racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1200 metres and worth $175,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 Breeders Classic was won by More Joyous from Graceful Anna with No Evidence Needed third.

The mares event is held on the same day as the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes and Group 3 Royal Sovereign Stakes.

The Breeders Classic is a nice group race for mares and the set weight & penalty conditions of the race favours the better peformed mares. The 1200m distance suits solid sprinting mares or classy females who may be returning from a spell.

The race tends to attract more than handy mares to provide a challenge for punters and quite often a top class mare will come along to contest the race, as evidenced by the wins of More Joyous (2011), Hot Danish (2009), Spinning Hill (2001) and Staging (2000) over the years.

More Joyous (2011) scored the easiest of wins in this event when resuming from her unplaced run in the Gr1 WS Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in October and recent Breeders Classic winners include Alverta (2010) and Hot Danish (2009).
