The Breeders Classic is a nice group race for mares and the set weight & penalty conditions of the race favours the better peformed mares. The 1200m distance of the race suits solid sprinting mares or classy females who may be returning from a spell.
The race has tends to attract more than handy mares and quite often top quality ones, as evidenced by the wins of Hot Danish (2009), Spinning Hill (2001) and Staging (2000) over the years.
In recent years the Breeders Classic has been taken out by Gallant Tess (2008), Pasikatera (2007) and Steflara in 2006.

2010 Breeders Classic: Alverta came with a well timed run to mow down the leading bunch in the last 50m and score a very good win. Montana Flyer led most of the way and kicked strongly in the straight to hold on to second place in a fighting effort, while Madame Pedrille raced back in third spot and loomed up at the 100m before weakening in the run to the line for third.
