The Blamey Stakes is a Group 2 race held each year in March at Flemington racecourse in Melbourne, one week after the Super Saturday of Racing at Flemington. The race is run over a distance of 1600 metres under set weight & penalty conditions with prizemoney of $300,000. The 2010 Blamey Stakes was won by Lord Tavistock from Vigor with Dao Dao third.

The Blamey Stakes is a good quality race for open horses and traditionally signals the end of the better class group races of autumn racing in Melbourne. The set weight & penalty conditions of the Blamey Stakes tends to favour the better gallopers entered for the race and every now and then a top class galloper may find his name on the winner's trophy.

Some quality types have saluted over the years, including horses of the calibre of Apache Cat (2007), Durbridge (1994-95), Better Loosen Up (1990-91), and Vo Rogue (1988-89).

The race suits horses who may have come from the Gr1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield two weeks earlier or perhaps an improving three-year-old who may want to take on the older gallopers in a slightly weaker group race then the featured Gr1 races of the autumn.

New Zealand galloper Lord Tavistock Lad (2010) ran fifth in the Futurity Stakes prior to scoring in this event and recent winners of the Blamey Stakes have been Largo Lad (2009) and The Fuzz (2008).

2010 Blamey Stakes: Lord Tavistock was always well back and commenced a well timed run in the straight to finish resolutely in the final 200 metres to round up Vigor for a most impressive win. Vigor raced on the pace and raced a couple of lengths clear around the 300m mark and was only overtaken in the final 100 metres. Dao Dao sat off the pace and took a while to get going in the straight but finished off reasonably well to claim third spot.
