The Autumn Classic is a handy Gr2 race for three-year-olds that tends to attract above average types and gives them the chance to race over further than a mile in the autumn. The race will usually attract competitors from the Gr2 Alistair Clark Stakes and the better 3yo gallopers might head on to Sydney for the autumn racing carnival or they may consider tackling stronger class 2000m races like the Gr1 Australian Cup or Gr3 Easter Cup in coming weeks.
Over the years some quality types have won this race, including Elvstroem (2004), Dignity Dancer (1999), Triscay (1991), & Stylish Century (1990). In recent times the Autumn Classic has been taken out by more than handy types rather than the elite and typically the winner will just be an above average three-year-old.
Extra Zero (2010) ran unplaced in the Alistair Clarke Stakes prior to winning this race and recent winners of the Autumn Classic have been Brom Brom (2008) and Ambitious General (2007).

2010 Autumn Classic: Extra Zero was always well back and came with a well timed run in the straight to run home over the top of the leading bunch to score a solid win. Filly Absolute Faith also came from well back and ran on nicely to finish second, while Money Rocks raced on the pace and got to the lead in the straight and fought on very well to hold down third spot.
