The Alister Clark Stakes is a good quality three-year-old race for colts & geldings held on the same day as the Gr1 William Reid Stakes during the Moonee Valley autumn racing carnival and can quite often unearth a potential quality type.
Eagle Falls (2nd in 2009) won the Gr2 Salinger Stakes later in the spring of 2009 and the race has been won by some nice types over the years, including Titanic Jack (2003), Dignity Dancer (1999), Scenic Royale (1996), Naturalism (1992), Durbridge (1991) and Zabeel in 1990.
The Gr3 CS Hayes Stakes (1200m) is a good lead up race to this event, and three-year-olds contesting this race may go on to the Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) in 3 weeks time at Flemington on Super Saturday of racing in March.
Lieutenant (2005) was the last horse to win the CS Hayes Stake & Alister Clark Stakes double, while Playright (2nd in 2008) won the CS Hayes Stakes prior to his second placing here.
Linton (2010) won a Cranbourne maiden by 7 lengths prior to winning this race and most recent winners of the Alister Clark Stakes have been Pre Eminence (2009) and Sound Journey (2008).

2010 Alister Clark Stakes: Linton sat back midfield and unleashed a big run round the home turn to go past the leaders in easy fashion and go on for a very strong win. Take The Rap ran home nicely from well back to get second, while Offhanded sat on the pace and ran third after having every chance.
